About Alt21 Development
Alt21.dev is a development studio for the legal web. We build and maintain the technical foundation behind firm and publisher sites so they stay stable, adaptable, and under their owner’s control—through vendor changes, strategy shifts, and the normal chaos of digital work.
We exist to make legal publishing infrastructure something firms don’t have to worry about.
Our job is to keep websites, data, and identities secure, portable, and firmly under client ownership—no matter who handles the creative or marketing layer. Whether you work with a national agency, a local freelancer, or an in-house team, your foundation stays yours.
A Development Partner, Not a Competitor
Most firms and publishers work with agencies. That’s a good thing.
We’re not here to replace them—we’re here to make their work easier and more durable. Agencies handle branding, design, and marketing; Alt21 maintains the infrastructure that keeps it all running. We make sure that hosting, domains, and data live in stable, transferable systems, so firms can move freely between vendors without disruption or loss.
When relationships change—as they do—nothing breaks. Nothing disappears.
What We Build
Alt21 designs and supports the connective systems that make legal publishing work across platforms.
- Open-Web Migrations — helping firms and publishers move from proprietary systems to open, self-owned environments like Ghost or WordPress.
- Workflows & Automations — connecting Ghost, WordPress, newsletters, and analytics so content flows automatically, and teams can focus on writing instead of managing.
- Technical SEO & GEO — implementing structured data and schema markup so expertise is visible not just in search, but in AI-driven discovery systems.
Each of these areas reflects the same goal: to make digital publishing stable, discoverable, and resilient to change.
Platforms We Operate
We don’t just build; we operate live publishing environments that prove our systems at scale.
- The Legal Examiner (TLE) — a national and local publishing network where attorneys and legal professionals contribute analysis and reporting.
- publish.law — vendor-agnostic hosting and managed services for Ghost, WordPress, and Webflow, giving firms clear ownership and flexibility without dependency.
Community & Open Infrastructure
Some of what we build belongs to everyone.
- Open Legal Publishing Network (OLPN) — a public framework for decentralized identity and verifiable publishing in the legal web.
- mastodon.law — a federated social platform for the legal community, encouraging open dialogue and professional connection without the noise of corporate platforms.
These projects extend the same principle that drives our client work: autonomy, transparency, and trust.
Our Philosophy
The legal system depends on trust and accountability. The digital systems that represent it should too.
We build technology that keeps firms, publishers, and their partners in control of their own infrastructure—open where possible, interoperable where needed, and always designed to last.
